The festival has been held since 2005, when the German foundation EuroNatur announced the village of Belozem for European White Stork village. The event is aimed at popularizing/raising awareness on the possibility of harmonious coexistence of people with wildlife and attracting more tourists to this ‘colorful’ area. In 2012 Belozem had the opportunity to host the international meeting of the representatives of the European White Stork villages. Similar events are also taking place in the remaining 14 stork villages across Europe, known for their large stork colonies.
