Talyana Exhibition of Historical Photos of Varna (15 July – 4 August 2019)

Residents and guests of Varna can view “Talyana,” an open-air exhibition mounted on the square fronting the House of Architecture (at the intersection of the Preslav and Musala Streets).

The opening event will take place on 15 July. The concept comes from the Innovator Foundation, which aims to make locals wake up to their city’s history and culture.

Here’s what the team says about the exhibition: “Using historical photos of buildings, small streets and public locations from the city’s central area, and particularly the place we now call Talyana, we look at Varna’s past in an effort to learn what the city used to look like, what has changed and what we can do today. Cafes, hotels, squares, sea bathhouses – all these places carry the stories of thousands of people who lived here in the past. We are meant to preserve and pass down these memories to the generations that will come after us so that they do not forget.”

The photos come from the Pencho Slaveykov Regional Library, Varna State Archive, Stara Varna Museum and private collectors – including those of Hristiyan Oblakov and Ventsislava Nedyalkova.

Coming up are more events about photography from Varna’s historical downtown area, as well as online campaigns.
