From A(art) to Z(ze phenomenon): Creative Quarters in Bulgaria (17 August 2019)
Varna draws on the experience of Plovdiv and Kapana Creative Distict to transform its historical and cultural centre - Talyana quarter - by stimulating discussion and the exchange of knowledge and skills for the development of art quarters among interested creative circles from the cities - Candidates in the European Capital of Culture initiative.
The participation of representatives from the Sofia quARTer and Veliko Tarnovo, place the discussions at a national level.
The activities include conducting a sociological survey of the local community, related to the development of the Talyana quarter; organizing a forum for discussion of the challenges facing the development of art quarters in the country (Yunashki salon, Varna, May 2019); presentation of the project in Plovdiv and the twinning ceremony of Kapana and Talyana (April 2019, Plovdiv); collection and digitization of historical photographs from the quarter of Talyana; developing a development strategy for Talyana as an art quarter.
Public discussion on Talyan's development strategy
After the successful national forum in the beginning of June, during which gathered experts from the field of urbanism, urban planning, architecture, urban walkability and preserving of cultural and historical heritage from Bulgaria and abroad Innovator's team is currently working on the strategy of development of the neighbourhood of creative industries Talyana – the creative district in Varna, and also conducted a research among the citizens, workers and visitors of the neighbourhood.
In this regard an event is organized which purpose is a meeting between the team of the foundation, experts from Varna and interested citizens is to start a broad public discussion of the strategy, the research and the other activities part of the project. Participants will discuss good practises, possible opportunities, which will be developed in the strategy, future events and plans.
The organization aims to create a strategy for the development of Talyana which can be upgraded. The result may serve in the future as an example for creative districts from the whole country. There every stakeholder – from the local community to future entrepreneurs and currently working in the neighbourhood – we hope will be able to find useful information and tips for the development of his or her activity.
The public discussion is on 17 August (Saturday) at 16:00 in the building of Innovator Foundation (1 Sofiya Str., Varna.)
