Invited by the Goethe-Institut and the Municipal Foundation “Plovdiv 2019” in Bulgaria, Elke aus dem Moore, Director of the Ifa Visual Arts Department. On October 12 at 6:30 pm at the Goethe-Institut, she will present the various activities of Ifa with a special focus on current projects and the German Pavilion of the 2017 Venice Bienniale, which was awarded the Golden Lion for Best National Participation for the work of Anne Imhof.
Ifa or Germany’s Institute for International Relations is the oldest organization whose purpose is the international cultural exchange and popularization of German culture around the world. ifa initiates and produces various programs, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, etc. In addition, the institute is also the commissioner of the German Pavilion of the Venice Biennial for Contemporary Art. This year, ifa celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Ifa is a well-known organization in Bulgaria and occupies an important place in the history of Bulgarian contemporary art. Since 1989, in the ifa gallery in Berlin are some of the first major performances outside Bulgaria, of some Bulgarian artists who have been recognized today, contributing to their international career. For example, Nedko Solakov and Lachezar Boyadjiev have solo exhibitions there, and in 1997 the exhibition “Menschenbilder, Foto und Videokunst aus Bulgarien” with curator Jara Boubnova and with participants Kalin Serapionov, Pravdoliub Ivanov, Huben Cherkelov, RASSIM and others.
On the other hand, thanks to the cooperation of the Goethe-Institut, ifa managed to present for the first time in Bulgaria symbolic exhibitions such as Tim Ulrich’s “Book”, by Ulrich Rückriem’s “Drawings and Sculpture” (1999) “Music of Unsettled Origin” by Sigmar Polke (2000), and “German Graphics of the 70s and 80s” amongst others.
Elke aus dem Moore, b. 1965, has been Head of Department Art at the ifa (Institute for Foreign Relations) since 2008.
She studied literature and art sciences in Osnabrück, Zurich and Bochum. From 1999 to 2002, she worked as curator for contemporary art at the Shedhalle in Zurich. From 2003 to 2006 she directed the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart. She is the publisher of numerous catalogs as well as the two online magazines “Nafas” and “Contemporary And (C &)”, a platform for international art from African perspectives. In addition, it has published articles in numerous specialist journals. She was also a guest lecturer at HGK Basel, ZHdK Zurich, HfG Karlsruhe, UdK Berlin and PH Ludwigsburg.
Since 2008, Elke aus dem Moore is responsible for the content of the ifa international exhibition program, the ifa galleries in Stuttgart and Berlin and funding programs in the field of fine arts.
Elke aus dem Moore is a member of numerous specialist committees and juries. Its curatorial and programmatic approach follows the principle of encounter, exchange and dialogue.
The visit of Elke aus dem Moore is initiated by the Goethe Institute Bulgaria and the Foundation “Plovdiv 2019”. The lecture is part of the series “The Super Art Year of the Goethe Institute in Bulgaria, which is devoted to the great art fairs in 2017. It takes place in the context of the FORUM 2019 platform for information seminars, meetings and discussions of the “Plovdiv 2019” Foundation.
