Practical training for volunteers gathered more than 140 participants from different ages in the House of Culture “Boris Hristov” in Plovdiv.
The two days of training were dedicated to developing skills in teamwork in the organization of major cultural events. The lecturer of the meeting, organized by the “Plovdiv 2019” was Mary Sadowska – coordinator and curators assistant from Wroclaw – European Capital of Culture 2016.
“The volunteer of European Capital of Culture is a person who has complex skills. Depending on the event, in which is involved, the volunteer must show different qualities,” said Sadowska. According to her the theatrical training techniques help to transform the theory into practice. People start to perceive the event as real action, not as an abstraction.
Responsibility and loyalty are the basic qualities that a volunteer has to possess. The success of the organization lays on the decisions he makes. Timely information, rapid response in emergency situations, knowledge of body language are the specific qualities which were the focus in the training.
“To be a volunteer of European Capital of Culture is an adventure, a great experience and invaluable experience,” said Mary Sadowska to the volunteers and added that every personal quality should useful to the cause of volunteering.
Training for volunteers is part of the platform for capacity building Forum 2019 of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture. Every participant in the training received a certificate.
The volunteer programme of Plovdiv started last year with the first training meetings from the platform Forum 2019. Up to date , the volunteers network of European Capital of Culture has about 600 registered and interested to participate. By the end of the year, there will be four more trainings aimed at expanding the range of the age groups that will participate in the realization of this large-scale project.
