Plovdiv School of Spectacle

Plovdiv School of Spectacle is a free seven-day intensive outdoor arts training school for Creative Practitioners based in and around Plovdiv, Bulgaria and invited international artists. The school will deliver training designed to build skills that creatives need for making outdoor events and civic celebrations and will be held between 1st October 2017 and 7th October 2017 in Plovdiv. The Training venue is the Military Club of Plovdiv.

The school aims to give creative practitioners a greater understanding of the purpose and creative possibilities of procession as outdoor arts celebration. Space will be provided to critically debate and develop new ideas and creative thinking, gain understanding in production, gain and share skills in sound, performance, 3D mapping and site décor. Inspiration for ideas will be Adata island – an important element of the Plovdiv  – European Capital of Culture 2019 programme.

The open call for the Creative Practitioners was open from July, 13th until 31st. 19 local participants and six international participants with different backgrounds will attend the training. The international group was selected by the partner organisations in Lithuania, Ireland, Cyprus and Greece. The working language of the school is English. All of the participants will share their artistic practice and will be supported by the local coordinators and international facilitators to learn and to create at the European Academy of Outdoor Arts.

The group work and the creativity of the participants will culminate in the final show – a public event that will invite people in Plovdiv on 06th of October, 16.00 h in front of the Military Club.

The school is led by Walk the Plank in partnership with Plovdiv European Capital of Culture 2019 Foundation with international partners Pafos 2017, Cyprus; Bulgaria; Limerick City & County Council and Fidget Feet, Ireland; that together make up the European Outdoor Arts Academy.
