Electric Orpheus starts its urban program in October

Trakia district hosts the festival

Trakia district in Plovdiv becomes a stage for different musical styles for two days in October. The Electric Orpheus Festival will offer the residents of the largest neighborhood in Plovdiv rock’n’roll from America, post-punk from Bulgaria, synthpop from Russia and techno from Germany. Within its upcoming edition, the festival is already a part of the European Capital of Culture program, which aims to cover also the city’s neighborhoods as sites for developing quality cultural content and involving the citizens in the 2019 program.

The October edition of Electric Orpheus will be held in Forum Trakia on October 19th and 20th, starting at 20:00. The focus of the first day is the American trio “Ceremony”, which included Bulgaria in its European tour of 24 concerts with only one date – October 19, and on October 20, after 23 years of absence from the stage, we will see the Bulgarian band “Violet General”.
“Ceremony” was founded in 2004 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA, and has released 8 extended play and 3 long play records. The “Ceremony” style is a mix of 60’s Rock, 80’s Pop and 90’s Shoegaze. They have made tours and concerts in USA, Germany, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, France and Japan, and this fall Plovdiv will be a stop in their European tour. Shortly before the Americans from “Ceremony” come out on stage, the Friday program will also include a live from the Siberian musician Alex Kelman /electronic-indietronic-synthpop /, who except a label owner is also the producer behind the famous Russian projects Punk TV, Hot Zex, Dsh! Dsh!, TonySoprano. Alex Kelman has released 2 extended play records: “Songs of fake and Distortion” (2014) and “Vintage” (2015), as well as the album “Siberian Pop”.

On October 20th, the program will continue with the Saturated Pixels electro-acoustic duo of Lyubomir Brashnenkov and Angel Dodov with the specially-made abstract visions by Spartak Yordanov – SpartArt, who becomes part of the performance with his experimental approach involving liquids, pigments, substances and various materials, as well as under-camera painting. An hour after the duo, “Violet General”, who have reunited after 23 years, will be on the stage. The band was created in 1989 and includes Emil Valev and Evgeni Genchev-July. Like “New Generation”, they sound like a dark new wave style, but they differ from them with a strong presence of post-punk and industrial elements. “Violet General” was active between 1989 and 1994. In only 5 years, they have had over 50 solo concerts, tours in Slovakia, Austria and other countries. They have released 3 albums and a compilation. From Hamburg, Germany, a guest is also Tino Tranquilo. Musician, DJ, part of the electronic duo Fumus & Nebula and part of the DJ duo Interelektrika. Tino Tranquilo will scatter a dose of deep and tech house love.
