The Adata Island hosts 25 international and Bulgarian artists
Plovdiv will be the host of "School of Spectacles 2017"
The Adata Island and the Maritsa River will be a special focus in the international “School of Spectacles 2017”, organized by “Plovdiv 2019” Foundation. A total of 19 artists from Bulgaria and six guests from Greece, Ireland, Cyprus, and Lithuania will arrive on September 30th in Plovdiv. Within one week (from October 1st until October 7th), they will be joining a training course for developing their skills in basic techniques in scenography, audiovisual arts, work with fire, performances, and installations.
Producers Liz Pugh and Rob Hill (United Kingdom), as well as Alexis Johnson, a director of the leading organizer of the “School of Spectacles” project, will share their experience in open-air artistic practices. The lecturers from Plovdiv will include the digital artist Petko Tanchev, Vesela
The training will take place at the Military Club building. On October 3rd, after completing the first theoretical session, the artists will move to the island of Ada to explore the island and get a direct impression by it and the river valley in the city. The vivification of the Ada Island and the Maritsa River through artistic interventions is a key activity in the programme of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019. The development of the projects from this cluster is a major priority in the activities of “Plovdiv 2019” Foundation for both the current and the next year. The urban picnic, organized in early September, with which the Foundation celebrated the 3-year anniversary of receiving the European Capital of Culture title, along with the forthcoming “School of Spectacles”, set the start for the events, workshops and meetings with artists, all of which are planned by the Foundation in order to create special river concepts.
On the last day of the performance school, October 6th from 19.00 until 21.00, in front of the Military Club – Plovdiv building, the school participants will present to a public the result of their studies and work in the form of an installation.
