About the project
"Take Away Plovdiv" is a Studio "Komplekt" project, which takes place within the framework of the main program of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019. It invites six authors and teams from different creative spheres to create souvenirs for Plovdiv, through a new interpretation of old visual references and inherited stories.
"Take Away Plovdiv" is devoted to a new type of souvenirs. It seeks a format that breaks their widespread role of commercialized nostalgia. Such as to offer an alternative to the uninterrupted cheap, uncharacteristic and poor quality broadcasting in the range of tourist shops. The project aims to break the all-embracing cliché of the typology of the souvenir and its role as a conveyor of the image of the city, concealed in the superficial, collectively adopted and originally outlined the history and way of life and culture.
Invited artists have the freedom to rethink values and reference images by offering their author's understanding of a souvenir. Their limitation is the format – it should be a spontaneous purchase, globally portable and easily associative with Plovdiv.
