Unique examples of French publishing in Kapana

Visit "Sofia" Bookshop in Kapana Creative District from April 16th to May 11th and see extremely rare examples of French publishing.
In the 15th century, during the Renaissance, France was one of the largest centers of European printing. Dimitar Baldzhiev, a French citizen of Bulgarian origin, born in Plovdiv, has dedicated his whole life to the passion of searching, preserving, restoring and collecting editions from the initial stage of European book publishing.
He will present examples from French editions, French authors and French printed works taken from his collection containing thousands of precious editions and in the field of philosophy, history, geography, traveling, theatre, legislation, and religion.

Visitors will be able to see the first edition in Bulgarian of French Grammar, which was published in 1869 in Vienna.

The presented books document the leading role of French culture during the Renaissance and its importance in shaping the spiritual image of Europe and the world.
Come, see, and discuss the topics that interest you - the unique in Europe's cultural life is part of our identity.

The project is part of the official programme of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019, on the flagship project Kapana Creative District, Focus - French Culture, implemented in partnership with the French Institute in Bulgaria
