The fair play initiative "The Ball" together with Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019
The Ball initiative is the football equivalent of the Olympic flame and just like the Flame, the Ball travels through many countries as a symbol of the game that unites people around the world. The Bulgarian partner of the initiative is Sofia Film Fest, which in March screened selected football films to introduce the audience to the project and its causes.
The visit of "The Ball" in Bulgaria will pass through Plovdiv, where the main partner of the initiative is the Plovdiv 2019 Foundation. On May 6 and 7 The Ball will tour key landmarks in the city - European Capital of Culture 2019 - will look down on the hill with the monument of Alyosha will pass through the emblematic building of Kino Kosmos, the Tobacco City, and the Kapana creative district will reach the Maritsa River and Adata Island and will take part in a dynamic event in Stolipinovo quarter.
"The Ball" enters as a direct participant in the event of the project "Plovdiv Together: elimination the ghetto boundaries", which is part of the official programme of Plovdiv 2019. Association Stolipininovo 21st Century, Europe - Plovdiv conducts weekly football training with children's football teams which will participate in a special football workshop dedicated to the fair play game. The programme of the sporting event will continue with competitions and special awards for all the participants.
"The Ball" brings the message "One Ball, One World" and encourages initiatives that affirm the European values, support disadvantaged communities, educate and give access to culture and sport to children and young people, people with disabilities, refugees, group members, victims of racism, stigmatization, hatred. Its ambassadors are a number of celebrities, including Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.
The non-governmental organization Spirit of Football has been organizing and conducting the initiative since 2002, and in 2018 the voyage starts from London and passes through Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East and ends at the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Russia. The Ball are: England, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Greece, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Georgia, and Russia.
