Forum 2019: Focus Building Audiences

Practical one-day workshop for building audiences within the European Capital of Culture project, together with British Council and Plovdiv 2019, delivered by Arts Marketing Association, London.

This one-day workshop will consider audience development from a strategic and operational perspective. You will think about how to achieve your organisation’s audience development goals, starting with understanding your current and potential audiences. You will be inspired with case studies to develop creative responses to your own challenges. Working language of the meeting will be English.


When: 29.06.2018 from 10.00 until 17.00.

Where: #SKLAD the new place for culture in Plovdiv and Plovdiv 2019 Foundation's head office from this moment on, located in a former tobacco warehouse in the Тютюневият град / Tobacco City  /16 Ekzarh Yosiff Str./.

You will gain:

Outline for the day:

10.00 – 10.45 Getting to know the group: What is your experience of audience development? What are you / your organisation trying to achieve?

10.45 – 11.45 What is audience development? Different outcomes from audience development; 3 inspiring case studies to set the scene.

11.45 – 12.15 Setting the scene for audience development. Vision, mission, objectives.

12.15 – 12.45 Thinking about audiences. How do we define them?

12.45 – 13.30 Lunch.

13.30 – 14.00 Understanding potential audiences. Who are they? Why aren’t they engaging? Delegate exercise thinking about their own potential audiences.

14.00 – 15.45 How do we overcome barriers to attendance? Share a range of strategic tools to make decisions about who to reach and how to do it; Demonstrate these with case studies.

15.45 – 16.30 Delegate exercise. Delegates work together using a fictional case study to think about ways they could engage audiences.

16.30 – 17.00 Final comments and close.
