Lead by the understanding that "Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019" is a nationwide cause and shared mission in the cultural field, Plovdiv Foundation 2019 and the National Palace of Culture signed a memorandum of cooperation. The partners will exchange experience in programming, organization and implementation of various cultural projects and events, in the hope that other national and regional institutions and organizations will embrace the opportunity..
"Cooperation with cultural institutions is extremely important to promote the events that take place in Plovdiv. The opportunity to present joint projects that are outsourced and are part of the programme of Plovdiv 2019, is key to the successful implementation of the project. The partnership with the National Palace of Culture is very important for us and I am glad that with the signing of the memorandum we mark specific activities and frameworks of a future partnership in the years to come. Nearly 1 million people pass through the National Palace of Culture every year. The events in Plovdiv next year under the main programme are over 300, and dozens will be realized addiotionally according to the cultural calendar of the Municipality of Plovdiv. The challenge we face is for all of you to learn about them", said the mayor of Plovdiv, eng. Ivan Totev.
In the memorandum, the Plovdiv 2019 Foundation and the National Palace of Culture agree to exchange cultural content, and certain projects from the calendar of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture - 2019 will be presented at the National Palace of Culture and at the Festival and Congress Center in Varna.
"The National Palace of Culture has been gaining experience and know-how in the field of culture and organization of events for 37 years. It is no coincidence that it is called the National Palace of Culture and here I want to emphasize the word "national". The presidency, which in one way or another was an important and turning point for the National Palace of Culture, the experience of the team and our vision that this is an event of national importance, we believe can be shared with "Plovdiv 2019". Culture should not be divided between Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna or any other city - it belongs to all. The National Palace of Culture is also very grateful and proud to be a part of this project, because in the last 10 years the development of Sofia in the direction of culture towards a creative city it made a huge influence on the entire cultural infrastructure. There is no way a cultural center can exist without the city investing efforts and investments in culture. We hope to transfer this experience and with the Municipality of Plovdiv to realize events after 2019, here we are talking about a long-term cooperation," said Borislav Velkov, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the National Palace of Culture. He also noted that the memorandum is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
