Plovdiv 2019 Foundation invites Plovdivians to become part of the opening event of the initiative "Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture" on January 12, 2019. The invitation is addressed to all residents of the city and the region who want to feel like real stars on the stage of the biggest cultural event in Bulgaria.
All those who are interested are required to fill out a participation form HERE by December 2, 2018. Participants will be selected by the date of their of registration - on the principle first come-first served. The only condition is that persons under the age of 16 must be on stage with an adult, who also needs to fill in a participation form.
The first 1000 applicants will have the opportunity to take part in a procession on the podium with short choreography and special costumes, as part of the show "We are all colours". It will recreate a colorful metaphor of the main themes of the programme of "Plovdiv 2019" and their union in the motto "Together". The ceremony will be broadcast live on Bulgarian National Television.
Each participant will watch the opening show from the front row before stepping on stage. In addition, the Foundation's team organized a series of talks with local institutions and organizations to meet with the people of Plovdiv and involve them in the large-scale event. In this way the participation in the show will be accessible to everyone and Plovdiv shows its diverse and colourful city in front of the whole of Europe.
The opening of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019 will be part of a long weekend in January (11 - 13 January 2019), when a series of events are planned in different spaces, outdoor and indoor stages in the city. They will have their culmination on Saturday night on January 12, 2019 with the largest and most attractive event in the programme of Plovdiv 2019 - the show "We are all colours". It will take place in the heart of the city on Tsar Boris III Obedinitel Boulevard and will recreate the basic concept of the project, in which the citizens are not only the audience, but also the creators and participants in the events.
