The Prince of the Sea and the Prince of the Earth
The puppet-theater performance 'The Prince of the Sea and the Prince of the Earth' created specially for the programme is inspired by the traditional Japanese Bunraku theatre, based on the famous story of the two brothers whose love for the Dragon princess of the Ocean gave birth to the first Japanese emperor – a classic Japanese legend for love, trust, the given word and meaning of life.
Premiere on 21 April 2019
The performance ‘The Prince of the Sea and the Prince of the Earth’ (premiere on 21 April 2019 on the stage of the State Puppet Theatre Plovdiv) is created by some of the most established Bulgarian theatre artists in collaboration with two Japanese artists: a puppet maker-master and a choreographer. Director will be Elena Panayotova, set design – Yuliana Voikova Naiman.
Except for the performance there will be a workshop for 20 young artists and dancers "Body weather" and a solo performance by Hissako Horikawa. Two puppet shows from Japan will be presented: Contemporary ones by Puk Theatre, and the traditional National Bunraku Theatre. The State Puppet Theatre Plovdiv will get in touch with representatives from the puppet theatre in Rijeka - ECoC for 2020 for the creation of a project for the exchange of performances and artists.
