The Big Bang. The birth of a collection
The project is one of a host of private collections of Bulgarian art that have so far remained outside public view. The set covers the period from the early 20th century to the present day, with highlights on the Bulgarian early modernism and post-1989 contemporary art. Unique in both character and volume, the collection is a personal view to the history of art.
What's curious here is that the collection has the ambition to place, by leaning on modernist roots, contemporary Bulgarian art in the context of general history. It thus succeeds in contextualising the past and its role for today's processes.
The collection includes works by more than 100 Bulgarian artists, among them George Papazov, Jules Pascuin, Nikolai Dyulgerov, Yoan Leviev, Georgi ‘Slona’ Bozhilov, Kolyo Karamfilov, Rumen Zhekov, Dimitar Genchev, Lyuben Petrov, Sasho Stoitsov, Ventsislav Zankov and Svilen Stefanov.
