Opera Open 2019 - Rigoletto - Premiere (13 July 2019)
From 2017 the Opera Open festival mounted a strong array of shows at the Ancient Theatre, presenting premieres, co-productions and hybrid-genre projects. They will all feature active international partnerships and will attract foreign and Bulgarian artists working across Europe and around the world.
Opera Open welcomed, on the stage of the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv, leading soloists of the largest opera and ballet companies. Over the past years names such as Paata Burchuladze, Hui He, Ana Lucrecia Garcia, Elisabet Strid, Donata D’Annunzio Lombardi, Alberto Gazale, Christian Benedict, Lala Leigh, performers from the Vienna Volksoper and the Budapest Opera, prima ballet dancers from the Bolshoi Theatre and many others. During the special 2019 year the Opera Open programme will feature names of world famous performers.

In the landmark 2019, OPERA OPEN made a special invitation to the director Acad. Plamen Kartalov - director of the Sofia Opera and Ballet and the main creator of the outdoor festivals "Opera in the Park", "Scene of the Centuries" and "Opera of the Peaks", to direct in the Ancient Theatre one of the works of Verdi most beloved by the public.
Rigoletto or how an insult becomes a curse. The Mexican Carlos Almagger, considered one of the most significant dramatic baritone voices today, arrives for the role of the jester.
