The Cultural Heart of Plovdiv Through the Lens of the Mahala - training

The project enters the Mahala directly: a workshop that introduces the participants to the basics of cinema - dramaturgy, directing and cinematography - is held in partnership with the Plovdiv Youth Centre and the secondary schools in the Roma and Turkish minority neighbourhoods, in partnership with the National Secondary School of Stage and Film Design.

Following a casting, young people from the Roma and Turkish minorities receive basic cinema art training. The approved candidates undergo a training in three disciplines - scriptwriting, camera operation and directing.

Training - 8 February 2019 - 10 March 2019

Four weeks of training at the National Secondary School of Stage and Film Design building, at the Naiden Gerov School and in the Indi Roma Foundation in the village of Kuklen. Group of young people learns about the basics of cinematographic work and initial knowledge of the script, takes on individual short films and creates a concept for general drama and film shooting.

The participants are then provided with filming equipment and are given an artistic task related to cultural and architectural landmarks in Plovdiv. They choose their own plot and, helped by a professional playwright, create a screenplay. Then, assisted by a professional director, they shoot a short documentary presenting their interpretation of Plovdiv's landmarks. The completed films are then shown at an outdoor mini festival held simultaneously in the Kapana and Stolipinovo quarters. The films are also presented at festivals in Bulgaria and abroad.

The project is a production of Deya Sto Ltd.
