Medea (Introduction for International Audience on 26.06.2019)

Euripides’ MEDEA
Introduction for international audience

A student group from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität invites international visitors for a short introduction of the theatre project MEDEA –official part of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019.

The myth of Medea is one of the most received plays of ancient Greek. Quite often the protagonist Medea is reduced to the act of killing her children and therefore stigmatized as a child murderer. But Medea is not just a murderer – she is also a woman, mother, refugee and a stranger.

The performance of Euripides’ Medea in Plovdiv’s ancient theatre is being handled as one of the most ambitious projects in this year’s program of the European Capital of Culture Plovdiv.

For the past two years a cast of professional actors has been combined with children and teenagers from the diverse ethnical communities of Plovdiv. Together they break the frames of a classical theatre play and discuss highly topical social issues like diversity, integration and humanity.

Join our free introductory meeting to learn more about Euripides’ drama Medea and discuss the background of this impressive production.

When: June 26th 2019, at 2 p.m.
Location: SKLAD, 4th floor, 16 Ekzarh Yosif Str., Plovdiv
