Travelling the World. Art from Germany Artworks from the ifa Collection, 1949 to the Present (11 October – 8 December 2019)

Ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) is presenting this travelling collection of contemporary art for the first time in Bulgaria.

The exhibition is the largest retrospective of works from the collection of the Institute for International Relations of Germany, ifa. Consisting of 350 works by 80 artists and covering the period from the 1950s to the present, the exhibition is the most comprehensive display of works of art from the institute's possessions. The show is a round-up of the trends in the art worlds of Eastern and Western Germany, as presented by their most prominent artists.

The curators emphasize specifically to the art created after the end of the Second World War, moving between Realism and Abstraction, Pop art, Fluxus and social photography, among a host of art movements and styles.

The exhibited artists include notable names, among them Gerhard Richter, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Sibylle Bergemann, Joseph Beuys, Arno Fischer, Katharina Fritsch, Hermann Glöckner, Andreas Gursky, Matthias Hoch, Candida Höfer, Rebecca Horn, Barbara Klemm, Nam June Paik, Dieter Roth, Thomas Ruff, Karin Sander, Thomas Schütte, Wolfgang Tillmans, Günther Uecker, Wolf Vostell, Ulrich Wüst.

Having visited Tel Aviv, Moscow and Rio de Janeiro, the exhibition 'Travelling Around the World. Art from Germany' is back in Europe. After a stay at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade at the end of 2018, it will now take up the spaces of the two newest exhibition halls in the European Capital of Culture.

ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) is Germany's oldest organisation managing the international cultural exchange and the popularisation of German culture around the world. ifa is the organiser and producer of various programmes, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, among a host of events focused on German culture. ifa is the commissioner of Germany's pavilion at the Venice Biennale. In 2019 the institute celebrates its 100th anniversary.
