Bulgarian directors create seven short films inspired by Plovdiv

Master classes, screenings of modern Bulgarian films and meetings with their authors are included in the CINEPLOVDIV initiative, which is a part of the program of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019.

The CINEPLOVDIV initiative,  part of the program of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019, was introduced today, 20.02, at a press-conference in Fargo club in the presence of directors Hristo Simeonov, Lyubomir Mladenov, Petar Valchanov and Nikolay Todorov, who are part of the seven directors’ teams that are going to shoot films inspired by Plovdiv.

These seven directors’ teams are going to create seven short films that are inspired by and devoted to the city of Plovdiv. The directors who are going to realize their ideas on film tape in Plovdiv are Petar Valchanov and Kristina Grozeva (The Lesson, Glory), Nikolay Todorov (Before I Go to Sleep), Pavel Vesnakov (Zeus), Ralitsa Petrova (Godless), Dimitar Kutmanov (Ecce homo), Lyubomir Mladenov (Hunting Park, Ship in a Room), Hristo Simeonov (The Son).

Apart from the production of these films, in 2018 each one of them is going to lead a master class that is designed for non-professionals. Anyone who is tempted to learn something new and interesting from the world of cinema is going to have the opportunity to participate for free in one of the master classes in Fargo club or in Lucky, Cinema House. Every meeting with the audience is going to be accompanied by a screening of a film by one of the directors.

The opening event is on Saturday, 24. February; it will be led by the tandem of Petar Valchanov and Kristina Grozeva, and the topic will be The director’s work with the actor. It will be followed by a screening of their last cinema production, Glory, based on a real story of a trackman who found and returned to the police thousands of leva, scattered across the rails. After the film, the directors will be open to a question-and-answer session with the audience.
