The platform with international participation OPERA OPEN on the Ancient Theatre is an established cultural brand at the international and national level as one of the most recognizable European open-air opera forums. The main goals of OPERA OPEN are enhanced international content, wide public access to professional art, development of cultural tourism.

Since the summer of 2017, the OPERA OPEN music festival has been implementing a large-scale programme on the Ancient Theatre - premiere titles, co-productions and multi-genre projects. Opera Open welcomed at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv some of the leading soloists on the biggest opera and ballet stages. The performances attract a large audience and suggest an even greater empathy for the art, created in an emblematic space with centuries-old cultural layers. The mission of the festival is to build a different world, full of emotion and spirituality, which makes it an important part of the national and European cultural map.

Opera Plovdiv invests in the potential of the OPERA OPEN platform by expanding its programme throughout the year and guarantees a strong international presence of artists: directors, artists, video artists, set designers, conductors, opera singers, instrumentalists, ballet dancers and Bulgarian performers with world careers. In 2022, the OPERA OPEN project envisages maintaining the trends for strong international content, meeting the expectations of the residents and guests of the city of Plovdiv, as well as expanding the partnerships with European opera houses and open-air opera festivals. The main programme are the performances of the Ancient Theatre from June to September. The performances on Bunardjika Hill, which were resumed as a tradition in 2021, continue. In the 2022 edition, the world tenor Jose Cura will stage the opera "Manon Lescaut". Negotiations are underway for the participation of world soloists in the performances "Don Juan", "Tosca", "Swan Lake" and others.
