"LIEU d’ÊTRE" - choreographic manifesto for housing projects, large cities & utopias
The French company COMPAGNIE ACTE has described its project "LIEU d’ÊTRE" as a choreographic manifesto for housing projects, large cities & utopias.
"LIEU d’ÊTRE" (“A Place for Existing”) is an unusual performance in a Plovdiv quarter that will take place in May and June 2019. It will feature a mediator-guided preliminary study of the area which will have taken place a year earlier; the selection of a specific location (apartment block); a public discussion; and the involvement of local residents to take part in the show. Professional dancers and choreographers will lure non-professional “participants” – in three weeks of training and rehearsals they will also be part of the show, and more than 40 families will welcome the visiting artists.
"LIEU d’ÊTRE" transforms our idea of the city and its inhabitants
"LIEU d’ÊTRE" moves up the everyday city environment and changes our daily way of looking at it – the project presents an audience who is are walking towards a meeting place, dancers on the balconies, aerial ballet on the building's facade. LIEU d’ÊTRE is a nomadic creation for the cities, exemplifying the histories of inhabited places. Apart from the show, the goal is to recreate an non-traditional geography of the city through the union of professional dancers and inhabitants of the same urban space, all merging into a collective art experience.
