European Odyssey 2019. The Travelling Man
"European Odyssey 2019. The Travelling Man" is a large-scale project based on Homer’s work. The famous N. O. Masalitinov Drama Theatre - Plovdiv presents the show Odysseus in the framework of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019, thus offering to all the opportunity to explore the myth in its contemporary dimensions - creating an epic, modern and visually compelling performance.
The project began with a scientific conference in 2017. This will cover the points of view that European theatre and literature use to analyse the “Odyssey”. The event will be led by Prof. Kleo
Actor casting and work studio - This module is dedicated to the staging of the play in Plovdiv. А special actor‘s studio with the translator of Homer’s Odyssey, Nikolai Vranev, will be working on the complex linguistic interweaving based on a widely familiar myth, the search for a new plastic language. Further, it will be exploring the possibilities of stage design and sets. (A casting call will take place on 18 and 19 June in the Large Hall of the Plovdiv Drama Theatre (10 am). Applicants must email a CV at email@example.com by 15 June. The short-listed applicants will take part in the actor’s studio (20 June – 3 July 2018).
The premiere “Odysseus” will have its opening night at the Plovdiv Drama Theatre on 27, 28 February and 1 March 2019. Text: Alexander Sekulov. Director: Diana Dobreva. Set design: Mira Kalanova. The Greek National Theater will contribute to the show. There will be special guest appearances of Yannis Pantazis, a Greek musician who crafts and plays instruments from antiquity, and the Greek composer and theatre director Theo Abazis (Deputy Artistic Director of Greek National Theater).
