Screening of the short film Better Nature by Ralitsa Petrova at Dom na Kinoto in Sofia

The teams of seven Bulgarian contemporary film directors created seven short films inspired by and dedicated to Plovdiv. They are all part of the "CINEPLOVDIV" project, a highlight in the programme of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture. When finished, the seven works were pieced together into a feature-length film omnibus '7' [short stories], which premiere was in April 2019.

"Better Nature"

The second short film so far is "Better Nature", a work of Ralitsa Petrova (holder of the Golden Leopard Award from the Locarno Film Festival for her film "Bezbog"). It tells the story of a disgruntled employee who, in the name of corporate teambuilding, is forced to exercise positive thinking while planting trees. But it's only after she has passed through cruelty and succeeded in connecting with another human being that she is able to experience a moment of peace and love.

Ralitsa Petrova lives and works in Bulgaria, France and the UK. She graduated in film direction from the National Film and Television School in London. She is a member of the European Film Academy. Her films have been selected for screening at the most prestigious world festivals - Cannes, Berlin and Locarno. Her first film, “Bezbog” (2016), has won the Golden Leopard Award for Best Film at the international film festival in Locarno. The film has had more than 90 festival appearances and has won 27 international awards.

KINOPLOVDIV is a project of the Screening Emotions production house. Find more about the films and the directors on Facebook.
