7 Teams, 7 Films, 7 Master Classes

The teams of seven Bulgarian contemporary film directors will create seven short films inspired by and dedicated to Plovdiv. They are all part of the "KINOPLOVDIV" project, a highlight in the programme of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture. When finished, the seven works will be pieced together into a feature-length film omnibus, which will be premiered in April 2019. In 2018 a series of master classes, workshop discussions and meetings with audiences unveiled fascinating details of the art of filmmaking.

The third completed short is "Fragile", a work of Lyubomir Mladenov ("Hunting Park", "Ship in a Room"). The film tells the story of a girl whose dream we enter intimately. But it is not an unreal phantasmagoria: It's a dream-slash-test in which the heroine faces her fears which in real world she would rather suppress. In thematic and stylistic terms, it's a work of magical realism, and the director has said it was his first time ever to immerse himself into this type of aesthetics.
