7 Teams, 7 Films, 7 Master Classes

The teams of seven Bulgarian contemporary film directors will create seven short films inspired by and dedicated to Plovdiv. They are all part of the "KINOPLOVDIV" project, a highlight in the programme of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture. When finished, the seven works will be pieced together into a feature-length film omnibus, which will be premiered in April 2019. In 2018 a series of master classes, workshop discussions and meetings with audiences unveiled fascinating details of the art of filmmaking.

Nina

A sunny Saturday in Plovdiv. A stolen wallet. An underage offender. Will justice triumph or some new order set in? This is the story the director Hristo Simeonov and his team have shot in Plovdiv. "Nina" planted Plovdiv's Central Railway Station and the surrounding area firmly into the collective memory, and was also the springboard for the career of the young actress Plamena Stefanova, who plays the title role. Her partner, as the victim, is Margita Gosheva. "Nina" is the sixth feature in the KINOPLOVDIV-sponsored seven-film omnibus production dedicated to the city of Plovdiv.

Hristo Simeonov graduated in film direction at the Neofit Rilski Southwest University. He has shot several short films - which have been screened at international festivals such as Tampere, Dresden, Cotbus, Molodist, Bilbao, Trieste, Vienna and Sofia. His debut film, “The Son”, won the Grand Prix for Short Film at the Cotbus Film festival (2016), the Bulgarian Film Academy Award (2016) and the Golden Rose Award for Short Film (2016). Mr Simeonov is the author and director of several documentary portraits within the TV Clever Village series of the Bulgarian National Television.
