Family Zone

Family Zone is a project about creating an interactive street performance, intended for open public areas in Plovdiv. Actors, with the help of giant puppets, re-create stories and scenes of actual daily life problems with the aid of theatre. The performance will be presented outdoor on 3rd and 4th September from 18 till 19h starting from the Central square and ending by the building of the puppet theatre and on the 5th September  - two performances - one at 13h on Ivan Vazov street as part of the celebration of the 7th anniversary of the inauguration of Plovdiv as European Capital of Culture, and the second at 18 h starting from the Maritza pharmacy square.

Family Zone uses public city areas as a magnifying glass, through which different aspects of relations are being studied: parents-children, humanity–nature, the nature of humanity, culture, are some of the important topics, discussed with the means of exaggeration and irony. The baseline is TOGETHER. The unity, which starts from home as an environment and is transferred into society, while changing current attitudes and stereotypes.

The show is suitable for audiences, using the universal means of expression of theatre, with no language barrier.

Playwrights and directors: Eva Kyosovska and Vesselin Boydev. The scenographer is Krum Krumov. The creative team includes the artists and the ateliers of State Puppet Theatre  Plovdiv.

Family Zone aims at improving people’s access to culture, popularizing art as an instrument for social development, and involving the attitude towards the intangible cultural heritage. It contributes to the reputation of Plovdiv as a center of modern art practices, by creating a product of culture, competitive to the European art tendencies.

Open-air theatre is a great opportunity of attracting new audiences and giving publicity to topics, considered by some “a taboo”. Built on the principles of sitcom – same characters in different situations, the project is given the opportunity of changing its plot and the topics discussed. This is a great feature since it leads to the possibility of creating multiple different shows targeted at the same audience. The project’s mobility ensures its display both throughout the country and abroad, as well as its participation in various cultural forums and festivals. Furthermore, an open-air performance in the current pandemic state of the world means art in a safe environment, which is a strong premise to a full comprehension of the cultural product.

The project is a production Three are Too Many, Two - Not Enough NPO and is part of the LEGACY programme of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019.
