School of Spectacle
Fire sculpture, air dance and video projections were the culminations of “School of Spectacles ” in Plovdiv (1 – 06.10.2017.) 25 artists from Bulgaria and from abroad were gathered for one week by “Plovdiv 2019”, which gave them complete freedom in their artistic solutions for urban interventions in order to recreate the Adata Island –little known for some people and completely unknown for others, urban oasis, located in the heart of one of the most dynamically developing cities in Bulgaria. The island, along with the Maritsa River, is among the main focuses of the program of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture ever since the time of applying for the title.
Plovdiv School of Spectacle was a free seven-day intensive outdoor arts training school for Creative Practitioners based in and around Plovdiv, Bulgaria and invited international artists. The school delivered training designed to build skills that creatives need for making outdoor events and civic celebrations and was held between 1st October 2017 and 7thOctober 2017 in the Military Club of Plovdiv.
The main aim of the school was to give creative practitioners a greater understanding of the purpose and creative possibilities of procession as outdoor arts celebration. Space was provided to critically debate and develop new ideas and creative thinking, gain understanding in production, gain and share skills in sound, performance, 3D mapping and site décor.
